Creating a good photo composition in landscape photography is the subject of this video. We had a great time working the scene, trying to create a proper landscape photo. This is how we do practical photography on location. The Gatanöf rock might be the next Instagram photo hit, but it could just as well just be a rock out in the sea.
It can be argued that photography is not only about the conditions needed to get the shot. The main actors are the moments, – the experience and the mindfulness of the experience. When considering the ideal conditions for photography the wind plays an important role. Calm winds offer the possibility of reflections and sometimes the reflections provide great foregrounds. This is what we focused on at Gatanöf.
Gatanöf is in many ways similar to Hvítserkur at Vatnsnes. It is possible to walk right up to it on low tide if you are careful. For photographers, it is one of the more interesting destinations close to Húsavík, north-Iceland. As long as the weather is reasonable it´s possible to walk down to Gatanöf all year around.
We did also visit Gatanöf in the middle of March and had a great time shooting the northern lights. Those northern lights photos are also featured in this video.
